Acorns Room

Acorns Curriculum (Ages 18 months - 2.5 years)

The Acorns curriculum supports children through an exciting stage of growing independence, communication and curiosity.

At this age, children are beginning to develop their own ideas, preferences and personalities. Our curriculum provides plenty of opportunities to explore, investigate, communicate and become increasingly independent within a safe and nurturing environment.

Our curriculum supports children to:

  • Develop words and short phrases to communicate their needs, ideas and interests

  • Build confidence in walking, running, climbing and physical movement

  • Develop relationships with other children and begin to enjoy playing alongside their peers

  • Recognise familiar pictures, objects, people and routines

  • Enjoy books, songs and rhymes and develop an early love of stories

  • Explore simple creative experiences using different materials

  • Develop early mathematical awareness through counting, sorting, filling, emptying and exploring size

  • Become increasingly independent with feeding, handwashing and personal care

  • Explore their environment and develop a natural curiosity about how things work

  • Begin to recognise and express their feelings and emotions

Practitioners carefully plan experiences around children's interests and development, introducing new vocabulary, ideas and challenges through play while giving children the confidence to have a go and do more for themselves.
